Henry Street Settlement
Founded in 1893 by social work and public health pioneer Lillian Wald and based in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Henry Street Settlement is a non-profit organization that provides social services. The organization offers educational and social services that include family literacy, mental health clinic, senior citizens programs, shelter for homeless families and battered women, child care, and a home planning workshop. It also operates as an on-site health facility and conducts music, dance, theater, visual arts, and arts education programs to more than 50,000 New Yorkers each year.
