Hips & Curves
At Hips & Curves, we are dedicated to helping curvy women embrace their sensuality, love their bodies, and most importantly, realize that there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. So you might be surprised to learn that we are not participating in the #DropThePlus campaign, and will not be dropping plus size terms from our vocabulary. We embrace any effort to help women feel good about themselves, and we endorse the ability of women to choose which terms to use-and not use-when talking about themselves. We will continue to use words like plus size, curvy and full figured interchangeably. But we think the #DropThePlus campaign draws upon sizeist notions, and here is why. Plus is descriptive, it's how people find us. Like "Tall" or "Petite. We don't ascribe a negative meaning to plus and wouldn't say "#DropThePlus" any more than we would say "DropTheTall" or "DropThePetite". Instead, let's look at the labels we give ourselves and the meaning we give to those labels. They're packed with emotion. But they don't change who we are. What messages are we telling ourselves by saying "Plus is Bad"?
