Hartley McMaster has supported the development of Yorkshire Water Services' asset investment portfolio optimisation capabilities since 2001. Initial activities included: Identification of the Business and User requirements for YWS's portfolio optimisation system Analysing the processes to be adopted by both strategic and operational users Formulating mathematically the underlying optimisation problem and investigating alternative methods for the solution of the problem Developing the optimisation engine at the heart of the YWS systems. YWS are now in the process of enhancing their capabilities in response to regulatory requirements for their 2009-14 submission. Hartley McMaster has: Helped YWS determine their business requirements for the enhanced systems Supported the YWS IT team updating the systems Integrated our Investment Optimisation Engine, enhanced to provide a non-linear optimisation capability, into the YWS systems Hartley McMaster and ICS Consulting have been working together for over 7 years to provide leading-edge portfolio optimisation methodologies and tools to support effective asset management. Hartley McMaster made use of its strengths in multi-criteria assessment and mathematical optimisation to provide robust investment assessment and portfolio optimisation software to the Investment Optimisation toolset. Solution Manager quantifies the performance of individual investments. Investment Optimiser determines the optimum portfolio of investments that maximises performance against business objectives whilst still meeting business and regulatory constraints. An enterprise level system known as Investment Manager has been developed over the past year by ICS, Hartley McMaster and datb. At its core is Hartley McMaster's Investment Optimisation Engine. The system is now being rolled-out to a number of Water Utilities clients to help them determine their regulatory submissions for 2009-2014.
