HostPost Web Services
HostPost has roots in the photographic industry as it was founded and run by me 'David' an ex-professional freelance photographer of more than 10 years experience. I Started my photographic career when using film stock and dark rooms was the norm'. Back then the only way then to get a digital image was to feed a negative into a film scanner the size of a milk create! And then after about 3 minutes of making all sorts of strange machine noises it churned out a digital image onto a screen. The file size was a massive 1.2MB! Then came the digital revolution. Of course some said it was a fad and will never replace true photography. But I wasn't one of them. I found it exciting even though working through the industry transition to digital imagery was a painful business. It was frustratingly slow, cumbersome and expensive to get started at first as the major players fumbled around finding a set up that worked. But once a few technical dilemmas were solved and the teething problems with the chips and processors was cracked from there it gathered pace at a phenomenal rate. This lead to whole new working practices and coupled with the explosion of the Internet suddenly it was a whole new world. For one clients were no longer happy to wait a day to see a contact sheet from a shoot. It was expected in a matter of hours, if not sooner. I remained in the industry for a number of years and developed a keen interest in computing and the development of the Internet. Because of that I slowly drifted into doing more web based work. After a while I found a keyboard in my hands more often than a camera. I'd be lying if I quoted all kinds of IT qualifications here, the truth is I am entirely self taught. Not that I see that as a disadvantage. A few years passed and I got to a point where I was running quite a number of websites with various topics all over the place. It didn't make sense so I found a way to consolidate all the sites in one place. Jason Friend (new window link) a successful photographer I had got to know was also running his own small hosting business. He used it mainly to host his own sites plus a few others for people he knew. I moved all my sites under Jason Friend Hosting where my hosting needs were catered for nicely for a couple of years. Jason, being a busy photographer really didn't have time to develop the hosting business side. I was being asked by a few people to build sites for them and decided to go into web hosting myself. Come my yearly renewal I mentioned this to Jason who responded by offering me the business. After some negotiating I took over Jason Friend Hosting in March 2009.
