Hotel Plaza Colón

We focus on buying all local produce and employing local tradesmen. We implement recycling, electricity and water conservation. We support various community projects (eg: Operation Smile, Building New Hope, Vida Joven.). This project started with the company's awareness of the importance of education and tourism for the youth of Granada. Along with an NGO and Careli Tours; Hotel Plaza Colon started the first pilot of environmental education in a public school in Nicaragua. Escuela Pedro Joaquin Chamorro is located in El Diamante, a small community bordering lake Cocibolca. The project, with duration of two years, consists of three main lines: Providing an environmental educator for all grades in a local school. Raising awareness about the importance of the environment for everyone and its potential as a source of employments in tourism. With the support of our clients and partners, our goal is to collect the funds needed to improve the facilities in the school and buy school supplies which many of the children cannot afford.
