The HPI GmbH is the former central purchasing division of the Hoechst AG ("Hoechst Procurement International") which was divested within the framework of the merger between Hoechst AG and the Rhône-Poulenc into Aventis S.A. HPI manages a purchasing volume of approx. 4.3 billion euro with 4,000 negotiated contracts in more than 200 product and service categories. HPI handles not only the strategic (market monitoring, strategic procurement, supplier and product group management) but also the operational level (outsourced buying center, company owned IT-process tools) as well. HPI provides services that optimize purchasing conditions and process costs, identify savings potential, and reinforce the role of procurement as a method of adding value to the company. HPI has more than 1,000 suppliers in its network who process more than 50,000 orders annually. The company has numerous tools and methods at its disposal starting with strategic bundling and framework agreements to E-catalogues for ensuring the best possible conditions.
