The Hungry Heart Cafe is a socially responsible neighbourhood cafe featuring the freshest local products and many homemade specialties. As a social enterprise initiative of Stella's Circle, the Hungry Heart Café provides training opportunities to support those who have faced barriers to successful inclusion in the community. And we proudly use all of the profits from the Cafe to support our on-site training programs. The Hungry Heart cafe opened its doors in 2008 with a simple mission: to provide fresh, wholesome meals using local products whenever possible at an affordable price. Today, we continue to deliver on that mission, serving up interesting, inventive cuisine that puts a twist on local favorites, both in the Cafe as well as in our growing catering business. But the Hungry Heart Cafe is so much more! It is also a culinary training program that provides workplace-based experience and learning to individuals in our community who are trying to find their way back into the workforce. We offer more than just teaching technical skills, we provide the mentorship and peer support that will enable our graduates to secure employment that is both successful and sustainable. And we have been recognized nationally and internationally! The Hungry Heart Cafe was named Ernst & Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010, was listed in Where to Eat in Canada in 2011 and 2014 and was the recipient of TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence, 2012, 2013 and 2014! In 2014 we also received the St. John's Board of Trade Business Excellence Award for Community Impact (Under 20 Employees).
