Inner City Trust
The Inner City Trust (ICT) was founded in 1981 by Paddy Doherty and was formally incorporated as a company limited by guarantee with charitable status six years later. Its objectives were the relief of poverty and the advancement of education, particularly for young people by providing training facilities. Through the difficult days of The Troubles, the Trust acquired buildings that had been burned and bombed, rebuilt them and in the process provided employment and training for young people in the City. In more recent years the Trust has focused on managing and maintaining its various assets, many of them within the Walled City. In 2006, the Board under the Chairmanship of Bishop Mehaffey decided to renew, reenergise and revitalise the Trust. It moved to form a partnership with Waterside Development Trust and the Directors of both organisations remain committed to the goals of achieving prosperity, reconciliation and social and community advancement. One of the elements of the revitalisation plan was to dispose of a number of properties in a way that secured reinvestment and at the same time empowered community led initiatives like The Nerve Centre (nervecentre.org) and The Holywell Trust (www.holywelltrust.com).
