International Day
International Day Celebration is a one day festival which Celebrates the rich cultural diversity in our region. The focus of International Day is on education, providing an opportunity to showcase the heritages of those who make up our communities. The results of Census 2000 show that Bucks County is one of the fastest growing counties in Pennsylvania. With that growth, our racial and ethnic culture has changed, evolved and multiplied. As any student of the interaction of communities and individuals knows, we only fear what we do not know. Meeting, greeting, interacting with, studying, and being exposed to other cultures helps our young people, and thus the community, grow in understanding and lose fear. Through International Day, we bring together the many diverse cultures in Bucks County and beyond, displaying the uniqueness of those cultures. The festival goers are provided opportunities to enjoy our cultural similarities, marvel at our differences, and find understanding and acceptance of the interesting cultures that make up Bucks County. International Day continues the basis upon which Bucks County was founded in 1682, a safe haven of religious tolerance with an appreciation for the diverse heritages of its settlers. Some 300 years later, through International Day, the County's residents celebrate the contributions that each ethnic or religious group continues to make to enrich the cultural life of Bucks County. Finally, we echo the words of the Bucks County Commissioners by stating that, through International Day, we encourage all residents to model for our youth the behaviors of tolerance, understanding, and appreciation of the healthy diversity in our communities. The Children's Cultural Center is proud to be the coordinating organization of this gala festival since 2000. Each year the festival has grown in attendance and awareness because International Day places the spotlight on the cultural heritage of families throughout the Delaware Valley. Recognizing that most of us can trace our family roots to foreign lands, International Day features cultural aspects of this rich heritage. Held again this year at Bucks County Community College, International Day features fun for the whole family through multi-cultural entertainment, exhibits, games, events and refreshments, and includes the Annual Bocce Ball Tournament and the Art Contest.
