JDNatlady's Creations

My road to making handmade soaps, hair products, and bath and body products had its roots in my childhood where my creativity and love of science began. I was hooked on science from the time I got my first chemistry set and later a microscope. As a child I knitted and crocheted, made all sorts of arts and crafts, and danced with our local dance company here on St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Skipping high school allowed me to graduate from college with a B.A. in Chemistry at age 18 after having also taken most of the biology courses offered. At age 18, I entered graduate school for a doctoral program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology ("MIT") and earned my M.S. in Biochemistry from MIT. I worked in a medical school lab on the mainland before returning home where my last job using my education and experience as a scientist was managing the science labs for the University of the Virgin Islands, my alma mater. I went on to become a radio and television personality and later went into public relations after a hurricane hit our Virgin Islands taking with it my jobs. I had no way of knowing that many years later my science background would play such an important role in helping me to formulate and create products that so many have come to desire and love. When I started wearing my hair natural again in 2008, I began making my own products and using the name JDNatlady (pronounced jay-dee-nat-lady) on my blog and in online groups. Fast forward to 2011 when I had by that time spent around 15 years enjoying my career as an attorney, I realized that a passion for making handmade hair products that started a few years before had blossomed into the need to start a business that included many of my creative pursuits, which included having been in business as a professional model, artist (painter), singer/songwriter and recording artist, and also having been a creator of jewelry and of knitted and crocheted accessories. In October 2011, JDNatlady's Creations, LLC was created and I immediately began creating soaps, hair products, and bath and body products and other handmade items out of the workshop/lab/retail shop at Fortress Mall on St. Thomas. Business took off right away and a loyal following developed here in the Virgin Islands and later online when the Etsy shop was opened that allowed me to sell my products worldwide and then also on JDNatlady's Creations standalone online store. The Etsy shop with its over 100 reviews and over 400 sales remains open with limited stock..
