John F. Dillon

John F Dillon and Co. was founded by Jack Dillon (1928-2006) on September 9th, 1965 at 17 Battery Place, New York, New York. Like most shipping related firms, the company was initially located in downtown Manhattan. In 1973, the company shifted its offices to Connecticut where a large part of New York's owning and brokerage companies eventually followed. The company's initial chartering focus was primarily on North America's grain exports to European and Asian markets, but Jack believed in strength through diversity and steadily increased the company's activity into other areas. He also believed that a diversified commodity base would lead to an improved information flow to the company's customers. Today, JFD&Co. is a recognized leader in the international freight market both for timely market information and volume of cargo transacted. The company has expanded from its original focus on agri-businesses to include the aluminum, steel, carbon and fertilizer industries. In 1991, JFD&Co. was appointed as the sole panelist in North America for the Baltic International Freight Futures Exchange (BIFFEX). The company has recently added research and projects departments, further enhancing our client's ability to execute more efficiently their short and long term freight decisions. Of course, Jack believed that the heart of any company is its people. The brokerage and operations staff adheres to the highest levels of integrity and service to their clients. Jack would have been proud that the company has not wavered from those principles upon which he founded JFD&CO. We are all proud to represent that tradition which lives on today after 43 years of service to the shipping industry.
