Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College

Established in 1961, the college has produced many talented engineers till date. It holds the distinction of being the second oldest engineering college in West Bengal. It holds the distinction of being the second oldest Engineering College in West Bengal after IIT Kharagpur. Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College has consistently been ranked as one of the top most educational institute in the country. The institute symbolizes the spirit of creation. Today JGEC is comparable to any leading engineering college in India. The College is situated at the outskirt of Jalpaiguri Town, the Divisional HQ of seven Districts of North Bengal. The College offers Bachelor degrees (B.Tech.) in six branches and Master degrees (M.Tech.) in two branches of Engineering. Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, Jalpaiguri is affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), from 2016 being autonomous and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Our Institution has always tried to keep abreast of the global trends in both teaching and research. So far as teaching and research at the different departments for the last few decades are concerned, there is no gainsaying the fact that it was on the whole traditional like all other Indian engineering departments although continual revisions of curricula were always conscientiously carried on. COMSYS 2020 is an ambitious project that has been taken up by the institution, the organizers from the institution being The Department of Computer Science and Engineering and The Department of electronics and Communication. The Department of Computer Science & Engineering is striving hard to accomplish the goal of providing innovative and quality education of quality standard to achieve academic excellence and provides platform for the students to achieve their career goals. We strongly believe that depending upon the interest of the student, he/she may choose to go for higher studies or if recruited by any company can choose to do research, development, design, production, application, testing or management in the concerned industry. This department has always been vibrated with teaching, research and extramural activities. The academic development of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in recent times has been like this: Faculty Development Program in Cryptography and Network Security (FDCPNS 2018) held on 12-16th March 2018, where the eminent speakers are from ISI Kolkata, NIT Durgapur, IIT Madres. Internship Opportunities 2017 for the batch of 2018 and 2019 opened up at premier institutes like IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, ISI Calcutta, JU, IIEST Shibpur etc., RTITM 2017, the first National Conference in JGEC organized by Dept. of CSE in collaboration with MAKAUT, West Bengal, where academicians and researcher came together from all over the country to publish around 50 papers, and kick started a research environment in JGEC was due to active effort by the department. IBCLI 2017, a National Seminar, presided by lecturer Dr. Apurba Sarkar, IIEST Shibpur. Student publications were encouraged by dept. and successfully published about 57 research papers in International Journals and Conferences. A series of Coding Competitions were arranged, and that helped in the growth of the coding culture of our college. Registered official mail service was set up for the whole college in partnership with Google by the students of CSE, which enabled the students to register and avail various student offers and collaborate with other universities with active work done by the department. Individual project assignment were given outside of the course curriculum for 2nd and 3rd year that followed the recent trending topics in the industry for the development of the students so that they can apply for internships in reputed institutes and organizations. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering stared in the year 2000. The Department is equipped with modern laboratories like VLSI, DSP, Microwave Engg. Department has faculties with diversified field of interest. Graduates of this department is not only selected by very renowned software companies but also selected by core companies. Students are participating in state and national level competition and the have bagged various positions like Smarty India Hackaton, West Bengal State Science Congress. This year and the previous year students project in Texas Instruments has been selected. One of the students project has earned funding of 1.2 lac from CSIR. Students are doing their internship in various Sites, NITs, ISI, Jadavpur University, IIEST shibpur. The Department has also been academically active in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering as organizers. The students from the third year are given mini projects to challenge themselves and work on different areas. Placement and Internship opportunities are also created for the students.
