JOBI POTTERY was founded in 1953 in the tiny town of Truro, on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. The first pottery, started by Joe Colliano and Bill Hastings (known as 'The Jobis') was located near the Cape Cod Highland Lighthouse. It thrived and continued as Truro cottage industry until the death of Elizabeth Locke, the second owner, in 2001. In 2002, Susan Kurtzman bought and revived the Jobi Pottery, bringing back the original mid-century retro designs and shapes created by Joe and Bill. A refugee from the advertising business with a degree in ceramic design from University of California, Berkeley, Susan has also added her own designs and colors to the Jobi line creating a fusion of retro designs and bright contemporary colors. Today Jobi Pottery is committed to keeping it local and keeping the Jobi style alive. Each piece is individually crafted, hand painted, and fired in our studio only a few miles from the original Jobi shop. Jobi Pottery has long been a collectible for those who travel to the Outer Cape and is also finding new popularity with those who are drawn to its retro look and everyday practicality. Each one of our pieces is individually hand made and hand painted. The item that you order may vary slightly in color and design from the item pictured on our website because they are NOT mass produced or manufactured. If the order is not in stock it may take up to 4 to 6 weeks to make and ship during the high season (JULY through SEPTEMBER).
