J P Systems, Inc. was started in 1983 to provide computer software consulting services to both the private and government sectors in the Washington DC metropolitan area. In the 1990's we applied our database expertise to the healthcare arena. We now specialize in Healthcare Information Technology, (HIT), medical informatics, UML data modeling, and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). We were a force behind the data models built for medical records for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and Indian Health Services (IHS). We are currently active in defining international data standards for message transmission and other functions for healthcare. We work with organizations such as HL7, OMG, NCPDP, HITSP, LOINC, IHTSDO, and X12. International healthcare organizations in Australia and Europe took an interest in the data models being built in the USA. We are currently working on a effort to further progress in clinical terminology with SNOMED-CT for the Veterans Health Administration. Standardized terminology is foundational to being able to communicate medical information. The ability to communicate medical data between different healthcare organizations with ease is referred to as interoperability. Once standards are in place, the actual HIT software can be written. We are a founding member of the Open Health Tools Initiative (OHT). This is a non-profit group which is establishing a repository of healthcare related open source software. Such a repository can make the implementation process more affordable. Only with dedicated international cooperation will this be possible in the future. We have also worked in other industries such as defense for The Department of Defense (Dod), Strategic Air Command (SAC), weapon systems, logistics, Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C3I) systems, budgeting systems, financial systems, Navy ship parts systems, ship refit tracking, army troop mobilization, satellite communications, and submarine sonar array systems. For 26 years we have helped over 150 clients to better define, design and implement their software systems.
