KA-RaceIng e.V

Each year we develop, design, manufacture and test a race car with combustion engine and an electric racing car. With these vehicles, we start at Formula Student competitions around the world and compete against more than 500 teams from international universities. The team is composed of students with a wide variety of disciplines - mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, industrial engineering, economics and physics. Our team is organized as a small business - each individual sub-team have responsibility for a particular part of the vehicles. Each member is responsible for a component or a task of his subteam - headed by subteam leaders. They meet several times a week in the so-called assembly, where all important decisions are made. While the team marketing is responsible for public relations, event planning and the acquisition and support of our sponsors, it is the aim of the technical teams Electric drive, electronics, chassis, monocoque and engine to construct together the vehicle, produce and to verify components in the test phase. The four-member executive board of our team takes care of the overall team and overall vehicle management, as well as the finances and represents KA-RaceIng on the legal side. Important decisions are always made on a democratic basis in a team. Advisory role to the team have over 200 former members. Through an effective information management system and an outstanding knowledge management, each member understand the project development of all previous seasons. The resulting transparency of the decision-making process contributes significantly better and faster finding of solutions and bring high acceptance of the decisions to the team. The professional organisation is our basis to design and build every year two race cars in less than six months with very limited resources. This project is hard work and takes a lot of time to complete. To move 80 students to invest so much enthusiasm and energy into a project in their spare time while studying works only if everyone feels the team spirit every day and sees itself as part of a whole. Therefore, it is important not only that our members have experiences and learn a lot, but also that we are beside the professional work still bound together as friends. Many team events and the interaction with other Formula Student teams from around the world contribute a good mood and fun. Working in the KA-RaceIng team means to acquire additional skills, facilitate teamwork, and set up the framework for common fun. We work independently and on our own responsibility, socialize with numerous companies, accept production-oriented bids and learn diligently to operate with our resources. We naturally use the close contact with the institutes of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). A testimony of it are numerous studies and dissertations on topics in the team and our alumni who graduate now at our partner institutes or work in partner companies.
