Katie Dempsey
Katie Dempsey was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2006 from District 13, representing the City of Rome. Katie Dempsey was elected in November 2006 to represent Georgia House District 13 including the city of Rome in Floyd County. Katie is currently Vice Chairman of the House Higher Education committee, Secretary of the House Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee and also serves on the House Committees for Rules, Economic Development & Tourism, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications and Health and Human Services. She serves as Deputy Whip for the House Republican Caucus and has graduated from the Georgia Legislative Leadership Institute. Prior to her service in the State House, Katie was twice elected to the Rome City Commission and served as statewide co-chair of the Joint Economic Development Task Force for the major local government and economic development associations in Georgia. She was an active leader in the Georgia Municipal Association and the National League of Cities. She was also appointed to the Governor's Task Force on Local Transportation, helping improve roadways in Rome and all of Georgia. However, Katie's elected service is only part of the way she serves her community. Katie serves on numerous local organizations including Hands on Rome, the Exchange Club Family Resource Center, as a trustee of the Floyd Medical Center, and as past President of the Floyd Healthcare Foundation. She is active in the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, the Rome Symphony Orchestra, the Rome Junior Service League, and an alumna of Leadership Rome. In 1990, Katie was named Child Advocate of the Year by the Rome Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth. In 1995, Katie was a recipient of the Heart of the Community Award. In 2003, the Exchange Club Family Resource Center named a community volunteer award after her - and made her the first recipient of the Katie Dempsey Star Volunteer Award. Katie has lived in Rome all her adult life. Since graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in Early Childhood Education, she has helped run two successful small businesses. Katie and her husband, Lynn are active in their church, Rome First United Methodist, and are members of the Northwest Georgia Emmaus Community. The Dempseys have two children, Corie and Gaines, a daughter-in-law Amy, a son-in-law Andrew and they are the proud grandparents of granddaughters, Cade and Callie.
