Kennet School

Kennet School is a dynamic and ambitious 11 to 18 co-educational comprehensive school which opened in September 1957; now, as then, it serves the population of Thatcham and the surrounding villages. As the most over-subscribed school in West Berkshire, the school has grown steadily in terms of numbers on roll and, more importantly, facilities available to pupils and staff alike, in the pursuit of excellence. The school prides itself in collecting awards for the high quality of its academic teaching, pupil progress and extra-curricular activities from Music through to Sport, Drama and many more. Recent improvements to our facilities include a superb Sixth Form Common Room, excellent Drama facilities and a school library, which is the envy of many. We also enjoy brand new Resources for Physically Disabled and Hearing Impaired pupils, opened in 2013. We continue to invest heavily in the infrastructure for learning because we believe our pupils deserve the very best. Kennet School was declared outstanding by Ofsted in 2008 and was able then to convert into an academy on 1 April 2011. More recently, Kennet has become the sponsor of Whitelands Park Primary School and I have the privilege of being Executive Head across both schools. Following a critical Ofsted report In February 2014, the GCSE results that summer placed the school in the top 20% for attainment and the top 10% for value added, nationally. The A Level scores were very high too. The 2015 results were even better: the A Level results were acknowledged by West Berkshire Council as being the best in the area; GCSE results were brilliant and will be award-winning when that time comes. In December 2015, we learned that our value added figure places Kennet in the top 4% of schools nationally. Kennet remains an ambitious and determined school where all pupils will be given every assistance and encouragement to achieve their absolute potential.
