Kitchens for Good
Kitchens for Good's culinary and hospitality job training program prepares unemployed individuals to thrive in careers in the food-service industry and beyond. We take a "whole-person" approach to vocational training, incorporating culinary arts, nutrition education, resume writing, and financial literacy, all while helping to prepare healthy meals for non-profit partners that serve the food insecure. Graduates will receive technical culinary education, industry certification, and internship and job placement services. This 13-week program uses the nationally renowned curriculum developed by LA Kitchen and DC Central Kitchen, two organizations that have graduated over 1500 individuals over the past 25 years, with a 90% success rate of full time employment within 3 months of graduation. Starting in fall 2015, our goal is to graduate 80 trainees annually, who will collectively earn over $2 million in salaries, and contribute over $200,000 in payroll taxes a year. Our culinary job-training program meets a large industry demand in San Diego, with hospitality ranking as the second largest traded economy in the region. With an expected 30% growth in the restaurant industry in the next 5 years, there are tremendous opportunities for professional growth in this field for skilled individuals. Kitchens for Good aims to partner with other social service agencies in San Diego, for referrals to our program, and to provide wraparound services that ensure that students succeed in professional and personal development.
