KNIPEX is involved in the field of sustainability in many ways, as the following examples impressively illustrate: Despite price pressure from foreign competitors, the Wuppertal-based family-owned company produces exclusively in Germany. Approximately 1,200 employees develop and manufacture more than 45,000 pliers daily in around 800 variants for effective, easy and safe working. Conserving resources in production and at the entire site is an important factor: KNIPEX aims to save 20 percent energy and 15 percent waste by 2020. For example, the ongoing modernisation of heating systems and the introduction of complex heat recovery systems within five years led to heating energy savings of 40 percent. Moreover, the consumption of paper has been reduced by 35 percent since 2014. A further focus of the company is the comprehensive qualification of its employees through training and further education as well as the compatibility of career and family. KNIPEX has its own day nursery and learning offerings for employees' children. The construction of a company-owned training centre is currently being planned. The family-owned company, now in its fourth generation, continuously creates jobs for all qualification levels; in the last five years, it was over 500. Even beyond its core business and national borders, KNIPEX assumes responsibility and, for example, by planting 32,700 trees in Egypt, supports the containment of desertification and the long-term preservation of biodiversity in our endangered ecosystem. KNIPEX also financed the construction of a secondary school in Uganda. Since 2008, the German Sustainability Award has honoured creative and sustainable solutions for tomorrow's challenges every year. Europe's greatest award for ecological and social commitment honours outstanding achievements in sustainability in the categories of business, research, architecture and communities. With this award, the Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e. V. together with the Federal Government supports companies and stakeholders with a role model function.
