LAMATA is implementing a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Lite on the road. The project involves the demarcation, with concrete slabs, of the far right lane on the express carriage of the road. "We have noticed that people still drive on the road with the old picture of the road they have in their heads. I want to appeal to all road users that work is going on on Ikorodu Road and should therefore reduce their speed," Dr. Mobereola said in an interview. He said Ikorodu Road was no longer an expressway but a township road, adding that a speed limit of 50 kilometre per hour has been adopted for the road. Dr. Mobereola said enforcement officers are to be deployed on the road to ensure that motorists do not break the speed limit. The LAMATA boss said when the BRT scheme was implemented, it would result in a changed lifestyle for all Lagosians since the buses will run on schedule, with dedicated bus shelters and at competitive fare. "Our target is to get many vehicles off the road by instilling confidence in the minds of riders that they could go to work and anywhere they wish to go using public transport, Dr. Mobereola said. He also assured that other modes of transportation, such as rail and water were been developed in order to give riders choices in commuting from one point to the other. In another one year, he said LAMATA hopes to get the ferries running on four routes while the rail project is pursued with more vigour. He solicited the understanding of the motoring public in giving Lagos world-class transport facilities.
