LA Productions
LA Productions is a film and television production company established by Colin McKeown in 2000. Colin is primarily known as a drama and film producer but has also produced factual, comedy, documentaries and light entertainment. Colin started his career as a trainee Broadcast Engineer at Granada Television's Manchester studios. He then worked in the Middle East before returning to the UK to help set up Channel 4's flagship soap Brookside with Phil Redmond. Other drama series whilst at Mersey TV included What Now and Damon and Debbie, written by Frank Cottrell Boyce. After Colin left Mersey he produced The Real Eddy English for his own company North South, Faith for Central Films (starring Michael Gambon, Susanna Harker and John Hannah) and Series III of the acclaimed prime time Carlton Drama Thief Takers. That was followed by Liverpool 1 by Simon Burke, heralded by Radio Times as '...the best of British television'. Feature film Liam, scripted by Jimmy McGovern and directed by Stephen Frears went down a storm at The Cannes 2000 Film Festival and received international critical acclaim. Colin then went on to shoot a pilot with Ricky Tomlinson, called Nice Guy Eddie, the success of which spawned a series for BBC One. Colin produced a film biopic for NBC entitled In His Life: The John Lennon Story , followed by Holy Cross, co-produced with BBC Northern Ireland, the feature film Beyond Friendship and The Bradford Riots. Recent drama for LA Productions has included Moving On, created by Jimmy McGovern, and Justice starring Robert Pugh, both for BBC One Daytime.
