Lashley Animal Hospital
Dr. David E. Lashley, D.V.M. has owned and operated a successful veterinary practice, Lashley Animal Hospital, in the Metro East for more than 40 years focusing on preventative, wellness, and surgical care for dogs and cats as well as the diagnosis, treatment, and cure of sick animals. He is frequently nominated as one of the area's top veterinarians, including repeat nominations as one of the Top 3 Veterinarians in the Belleville News Democrat's Readers Choice Awards. Lashley has given back to the local community by volunteering his time and talents to teach children about domestic animals and wildlife at Belleville-area elementary schools and as the founder of the Veterinary Explorer Post for the Boy Scouts of America. For over 20 years, Lashley served as the sole veterinarian for Treehouse Wildlife Center, a non-profit organization providing community service to people in southwestern Illinois who encounter injured or orphaned wildlife, donating his time, services, and supplies and saving the lives of fawns, ducklings, groundhogs, raccoons, and numerous birds of prey including the American Bald Eagle. Lashley provided Pro Bono services to the Belleville Area Humane Society for many years and, along with a fellow colleague, donated the center's first Avid Microchip Scanner to facilitate the return of lost pets to their owners. Throughout his career, Lashley also has served as both the President and Vice President of the Southern Illinois Veterinary Medical Association. Lashley is regularly sought by the handlers and professional partners of working dogs. He has served as veterinarian for K-9 police units in the cities of Belleville, Cahokia, Caseyville, Sauget, and Swansea. He also donated a bulletproof vest to the Village of Sauget for one of the State of Illinois' top performing K-9 officers and provided complimentary care to a local search-and-rescue dog who gave his life to the rescue and recovery acts following the September 11, 2001 attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City. Dr. Lashley is a 1967 graduate of the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine where he was one of the first veterinarians in the United States to learn and perform a Femoral Head Ostectomy - a surgical procedure that removes the femoral head and neck from the femur to alleviate hip pain - saving the lives of many large breed dogs who had heretofore been put to sleep when suffering from hip dysplasia. A native of Belleville, IL, Dr. Lashley has been married to his wife Pamela for 42 years. He is the father of three children; Christopher, Brook, and Sean; and the grandfather to Christopher and wife Elena's two children, Caitlyn and Braeden. As any good veterinarian knows, a house is not a home without a dog and/or cat, Dr. Lashley is also Dad to "Paddi," an Irish Setter, and "Keleigh," a domestic house cat, and Granddad to "Apollo," an English Cream Retriever belonging to daughter Brook, and Christopher's Irish Setter, "Wyndsor," and cat, "Solei." Dr. Lashley provides care to both existing and new patients Mon., Tues., Thur. and Fri. 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sat. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
