LICS currently follows the Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP) for Primary and writes Checkpoint (Year 6 and 9), IGCSEs and A-level examinations. The Pre-Primary School (PPS) encompasses the Early Learning Centre and the Reception classes and caters for learners between the ages of one to five years. There are four classes in the ELC (Early Learning Centre) and two Reception classes. The ELC is located in its own building in a well secured area with two playgrounds, several work and play rooms, including a child friendly kitchen where learners cook every fortnight, a library and computer room. The two Reception classes are situated in the main Primary School block and have their own playground. The school is well equipped with a wide range of equipment and materials and a dedicated staff committed to providing an optimal learning environment. The excellent child-adult ratio ensures that special care is given to the learning needs of each individual learner. The PPS is committed to providing a child-centred approach to learning and in developing the whole child socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. Specialist teachers lead learners in Physical Education, Music and French. Formal lessons in ICT are offered to children in Reception. The school's Learning Support Department also supports learners with special educational needs (see philosophy section for more details). Learners in the Department are grouped according to age and placed in five groups namely ELC Green (1 year-olds Infants and Toddlers), ELC Blue (2 year-olds), ELC Red (3 year-olds), ELC Yellow (3-4 year-olds) and Reception (rising 5's). In order to provide the optimal learning environment, we have based our curriculum on the UK's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 0-5 document designed for the learning, development and care of children from birth to five years. The Foundation Stage ends in the Reception Year and the EYFS 0-5 document contains a curriculum framework that leads to the Early Learning Goals. These are the objectives most children should achieve by the end of the Reception Year. The EYFS 0-5 gives guidance for teachers in seven learning areas for effective planning, assessment and teaching and prepares children for learning in Key Stage 1 (years 1 and 2). To further enrich our curriculum we also incorporate elements from other internationally recognised educational programmes. The PPS at LICS also places great importance on parental involvement in the learning and development of young children. To this end we have a very well established 'Parents as Partners' programme that provides workshops, talks, social events and opportunities for parents to work with and provide activities for, learners during the school day. Another special feature of the PPS is the Aftercare facility offered to learners aged 2 to 5 years. This programme runs from 13:00hrs to 15:45hrs from Monday to Thursday. Activities offered in this programme are well planned and supplement those provided in the morning sessions. Small class sizes, combined with a very dedicated international teaching body, create a caring and friendly atmosphere and a positive learning environment. Through our vision of "maximising the potential of future world citizens", we have been exposing our students to a world of learning and an education that is rounded and all-encompassing; complimented by attractive facilities on 5 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds: music and performance rooms, ICT labs, libraries, a multi-purpose hall, a tennis and basketball court, 25-metre swimming pool as well as a beginner's pool and a football pitch.
