Local Spicery

Local Spicery is owned and operated by Nicholas Davoren and Evelyn Wood, a husband and wife team who met 25 years ago while working in engineering and construction. With a common extra-curricular passion for experiencing the flavors of the world and a common we-can-do-it-all outlook, the two recently embarked on this exciting new and altogether different adventure for the empty-nest phase of their lives. We commissioned a new state-of-the-art mill and started a spice company! In addition to his 25 years of executive management experience in global marketing and business development, Nick has more than 10 years of management experience in the food service industry. He has served as a manager at many popular Marin County restaurants where he was accountable for supervising kitchen, floor, and bar staff. Early in her career, Evelyn founded and operated a consulting business spanning 15 years. She established in-house business, accounting, and marketing systems in addition to providing marketing services for professional service organizations. Her food industry experience includes five years in national wholesale distribution and regional product purchasing for a major grocery chain, restaurant wait staff experience, and volunteer hours in a local soup kitchen. Both of us hold ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certifications, accredited by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Conference for Food Protection (CFP) and recognized by the State of California. Local Spicery is registered with and inspected by the California State Department of Health Services, Food and Drug Branch, which serves as our basic health permit. At Local Spicery, we personally mill, blend, package, and sell our products when they are at their peak of freshness. Once ground, spices begin to lose flavor as essential oils react with atmospheric oxygen. We can offer maximum flavor and aroma because we mill only what we need in small batches. And, if we overestimate quantities, we donate our excess locally. Our new stainless-steel mill was built in the U.S. to our specifications. This mill gives us superb control and flexibility in particle size, which means we can be creative when developing our artisanal salad dressings, rubs and herb blends, and not simply pulverize ingredients to a powder. Our products are all natural â€" no additives, artificial coloring or radiation. Visit us at local farmers markets or on the web at freshlocalspices.com and facebook. We hope that you will join us in this new venture as we explore the use of spices from around the world and share our own unique blends to enhance local and seasonal produce, grains and proteins.
