MagCanica
MagCanica, Inc., a California corporation, is a high technology design and development firm with niche manufacturing capabilities. Drawing on the high energy level and extensive technical background of a group of young talented Stanford and Berkeley engineers and scientists, MagCanica's technical leader is the world-renowned expert in magnetoelastics, Ivan J. Garshelis. With expertise in magnetomechanics, mechatronics, embedded controllers, sensors and actuators, MagCanica is rapidly earning a strong reputation for solving challenging technical problems. Operating as a provider of engineering services, a seller of finished products, and a developer of innovative technologies, MagCanica works in the following areas: 1. Magneto-elastic torque sensors for high performance applications. This line of work constitutes the first and primary activity of the company. Under a license from MDI (a subsidiary of Methode Electronics, Inc., Chicago, Illinois, USA), MagCanica is a niche manufacturer of magnetoelastic torque sensors and associated control systems. Initial fields of application include auto racing (clutch shafts, driveshafts, engine dyno shafts), aerospace (turboshaft engine output shafts, main rotor shafts, tail rotor shafts), and oil drilling. Such programs not only represent significant opportunities to provide clients with unique solutions, but also constitute valuable platform projects through which MagCanica intends to continuously push the technology's state of the art and maintains its position of technological leadership. 2. Magneto- and electro- mechanical system development. In an effort to meet our clients' needs and fully leverage our team's varied backgrounds, MagCanica has the capability to carry out in-house developments in such diverse areas as other force-sensing sensors such as bending gauges or load cells, magnetomechanical actuators, or turn-key power control systems. This area of the business has begun with an R&D focus, and is expected to gradually lead to new and exciting product lines. 3. Engineering consulting and support. For the most demanding clients, especially for instance in Formula 1 racing, we provide customized engineering consulting services and dedicated field support. In addition to providing such track support, MagCanica provides engineering services to clients engaged in solving particularly difficult or time-sensitive projects. Since its founding in February 2000, MagCanica has rapidly grown into a well-recognized player in the areas of magnetomechanical systems and electromechanical design and development. In fact, MagCanica already serves such demanding and prestigious clients as the United States Navy and a number of Formula 1 racing teams in Europe whose identities we are not at liberty to disclose. With a world-class technical and business team in place, a solid base of clients both in the United States and Europe, and a position of leadership in a revolutionary torque sensor technology, MagCanica is well positioned to continue in its success.
