MAHOTA KITCHEN

It all started in 1913 when the first immigrants of the Tan family started growing vegetables in Singapore. Pig farming started in 1928 when the family bought their first 2 piglets. The business, named Tan Chye Huat Holdings, grew to become Singapore's largest pig farm, until pig-farming was phased out by the government in 1984. Mahota Farm was founded in 1996 in Chongming Island, Shanghai, China. The 50 hectares farm grows organic vegetables and raise free-range chicken, pork and other poultry. In 2014, Mahota Farm Shanghai obtained organic certification from Organic Food Development and Certification Centre of China (OFDC), completing the first prototype of an integrated township model called Mahota Town. Mahota Farms are built on the fundamental principals of sustainable and responsible farming, which protects the environment while providing safe and healthy farm-fresh produce. Plans to venture into Aquaculture was conceived in 2011. Business Environment was not conducive until recent years when supply bans, food shortages, export threats etc. pose increasing threat to Singapore's food sources. Opportunity came about when a floating sea farm off Pulau Tekong was put up for sale. Works on rebuilding the acquired site started in July 2018 and saw its first harvest in April 2019. Fresh harvests from Mahota Seafarm have since been selling in selected company-owned Prime Supermarket outlets. Quicklinks
