Malta Business Network

The Malta Business Network (MBN) has launched the Malta subsidiary during a well-attended reception held at The Xara Lodge on Wednesday 2 October, 2013. The MBN, a professional community, is a thriving international network that brings together professionals and industry executives with a comment interest which is Malta. The MBN was formally set up in the UK in December 2011 as an unincorporated association to promote business and professional opportunities that are related to Malta. Through a rolling calendar of business and social events held at Malta House in central London, the MBN has since established a platform that reinforces and expands the existing good relations between members of the business communities in Malta and the UK. MBN activities include industry and professional briefings and seminars, private lunches, receptions and monthly members' meetings that are also held at the Malta House in Piccadilly London. Joining the MBN Board Directors for the launch reception was Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat together with various dignitaries, diplomats and guests from the Maltese business communities. Addressing the distinguished guests present, MBN Chairman Mr Joseph Zammit Tabona explained the concept behind MBN. "Networking is fundamental to businesses - it provides them with valuable tools that help us to understand and utilise the power of building and maintaining relationships. Networking through the MBN is akin to opening doors to promote the dialogue that will create opportunities. Over the last two years, MBN has attracted members and guests from a diverse selection of industries and sectors, all of which are important to Malta's economy. Although still in early days, the MBN has now set a trend and the network is growing through our contacts, referrals and awareness from social media and the website." He continued, "The MBN would not have become such a success without the support of many professionals and businesses both in Malta and the UK. Tonight's reception was supported by lead sponsors HSBC Corporate Bank and EY Malta together with Marsovin Wines and Farsons Cisk, as well as other numerous businesses who offered assistance through time and pro bono work." Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat, who was present as the guest of honour, also spoke about the importance of such groups. He congratulated Chairman Zammit Tabona and the board on the initiative and urged the guests present to support MBN and to be part of this international network. The MBN developed from an initiative driven by Mr Joseph Zammit Tabona, then High Commissioner in the UK, following exploratory discussions with Christopher Jackson and Simon Galea. Together with eleven other members who were elected, they went on to form a committee under Mr Zammit Tabona's chairmanship and grow the network through activities and recommendations. Earlier this year, upon termination of his posting as High Commissioner, Mr Zammit Tabona was appointed by the Prime Minister as his Special Envoy for Investment Promotion. He has retained his position as Chairman, while the newly appointed High Commissioner Norman Hamilton was invited to become President of the MBN, in accordance with the company's constitution. Now a company limited by guarantee, the MBN continues to expand, attracting members and speakers that re?ect the network's diversity and reach. The network is not for profit and funds generated from memberships and sponsorships are re-invested within the network's activities. The MBN Board of Directors are: Joseph Zammit Tabona (Chairman), HE Norman Hamilton (Hon. President), Christopher Jackson (Secretary), Simon Galea (Treasurer), Noreen Cesareo, Stephen Bullas, Charles Gerada, Martin Zahra, Karl La Ferla, Dr Charles Cassar, Charles Saliba, Richard Ogden, and David Walsh. The launch of The MBN in Malta is a natural step for this international community. As the MBN UK went from strength to strength, it soon become clear to the Board that the network needed a base in Malta in order to be truly effective and deliver on its objectives. The interest was there, as also were the requests for contacts in Malta from our international guests and UK members. The MBN Malta is a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK company, The Malta Business Network Ltd. The Board of Directors in Malta include Chairman Mr Zammit Tabona, company officials Dr David Tonna Secretary and Luke Frendo, Treasurer, and Simon Galea, Christopher Jackson and Charles Gerada from the UK Board. Membership within the MBN is open to professionals and businesses. There are different categories available for membership, including individual and corporate memberships. All fees are annual and cover a year from date of payment. Members may attend events held by MBN UK and MBN Malta. Individual membership costs €100 while corporate memberships are available at a fee of €300 for up to 4 nominated members. Membership is also open to professionals and business executives who live outside Malta and the UK but who want to be connected to this community.
