Marina Pez Vela
Marina Pez Vela is committed to the children of the region, and has made a number of important contributions to local schools, including basic infrastructure needs. We recently donated kitchen and office equipment to a local school cafeteria which feeds 350 children on a daily basis. Among other projects , we provided new gates and fences to several schools and have established organic gardens. We also have provided scholarships and school uniforms to children in remote communities. Marina Pez Vela considers itself a steward of our environment and we have a strong commitment to environmental education. We are an active member of Titi Conservation Alliance, whose mission is to protect the endangered Titi monkey, and to create biological corridors throughout the region to benefit all wildlife. We helped establish an environmental library at several local schools and have provided the school children with environmental workshops with a special focus on marine life and local flora and fauna. We are also proud supporters of the Central American Billfish Association, whose goal is to promote the conservation and sustainability of billfish in the eastern Pacific. On a civic level, we are members of the local Chamber of Commerce as well as the Groupo Manuel Antonio, and the Quepos Civic Association. We have spearheaded and participated in such projects as the construction of the bridge at the entrance to Quepos, the repair of the breakwater, and the restoration of the Nahomi site for public use. Civic donations have included financial assistance to the National Emergency Committee to help local families after recent flooding, a local rehabilitation center, a football school and Christmas parties for children from low-income families.
