Mayo Street Arts

Mayo Street Arts

Mayo Street Arts (MSA) was formed in 2009 as a theater, puppet theater, and concert venue, and artist's exhibit and work space. As programs became more established and connected to our diverse East Bayside neighbors, MSA quickly became also a center for local youth programs, and the international and creative communities of Portland. In 2013 MSA received a major grant to purchase the building - an historic 1890's Danish church - and we have since completed many facility improvements including a new roof, renovations to the performance space, and restoration of the original choir loft. MSA presents over 150 events each year with an emphasis on theater, puppet theater, and international music. Our arts audience has grown steadily and reaches audiences members from Portland, Cumberland County, Southern Maine, and beyond. We also play an important role in our neighborhood by providing quality after school and summer literacy and arts programs for children of a diverse immigrant/refugee/asylee population. Many of our neighbors are working families and our programs help children improve language, reading, and social skills in a place that is safe, inspiring, and fun. We also work with local schools and local after school programs so that as many children as possible who are of underserved populations get to see puppet theater, kids concerts, kids science shows, and other educational arts performances. We are continuing to strengthen and grow our Programs for Community and Youth, and are working to make further renovations to our building. We invite you to learn more about Mayo Street Arts.
