Meddeas operates throughout Spain and we do our very best to match successful candidates with schools in regions of the country in which they would prefer to be placed, when possible. Where can language assistants go? It varies depending on the school and the post, but you will know in advance. They can go from 2 to 18 years old, and we do our best to match the age range of the children at the post with successful applicant's preferences. What are the costs? The program itself won't cost you any money. However there are some things you will have to take care of, having limited and previously known costs: Getting a Certificate of Absence of Police Records, Enhanced DBS check or similar. Direct expenses of getting your student's visa (there's no need for EU citizens). Your travel expenses from/to your country. One day accommodation in Madrid (or Barcelona) during the kick off meeting. For how long will I be in Spain? Our programs go from September to June and alternatively from January to June/July. If there is a school's positive report at the end of the first period, you can apply for a second one, in the same program or in a different one. What are the ages of the children I'll be with? What if someone at the school asks me for something I feel that I am not prepared to do? Meddeas works with private schools only, and before accepting a post you will get complete information about the location, age range of your students, school's characteristics and expectations etc. You will also sign a "convenio" (contract) where the possible activities and tasks will be detailed. So you will have a reasonable idea as to what you will find there before going… - and if for any reason a teacher asks you for something outside of your responsibilities, it should be easily solved by speaking with your Tutor and Meddeas will support you 100%. What will my duties consist of? Depending on the program you join, your duties could consist of the following: Reinforcement: Any kind of activity delivered by the teacher or/and by the language assistant, while both are present in the class. Conversation practice with reduced groups or half groups (up to 15 children): This activity is delivered by the language assistant on his/her own. Conversation practice with other teachers: It can be one-to-one sessions or reduced groups. Extracurricular and non-curricular activities: When delivering a non-curricular activity, the language assistant could be with a complete group of up to around 30 children (not applicable to Speakers program). What programs can I apply for? These doubts can be easily solved by studying this chart… and if you still have doubts, don't hesitate to ask! * Please note that delivering 20 teaching hours a week doesn't mean you will be just 20 hours a week at school. Yow will for sure have some gap hours in between, and will need to prepare your lessons and coordinate your activities with the teachers.
