MediaFem
MediaFem was founded at the end of 2009 by two young Argentine entrepreneurs, Alejandro Brega and Andrés Aller. MediaFem, formerly known as Redvlog, was first created to represent a network of Blogs (Red-vlog; where the V was intended to express something different from the typical blog). In 2012, Redvlog changed its name to MediaFem. The selection of our new brand name was based on our need to provide a more accurate description of our business, as we moved from being a group of blogs to becoming a representative of the most exclusive Spanish-speaking sites for Women. Currently, the sites we represent are more than just blogs or portals, and have a profound influence on particular topics or segments of the female public. Now, why did these networks of sites such as MediaFem appear? The Ad Networks broke into the market to solve several issues at the same time. The Internet became populated with millions of small and medium-sized sites which in aggregate started to have a large audience comparable to that of the big websites. Advertisers realized that the users were no longer consuming the contents of the big websites only but that they also visited blogs, forums, social networks, etc. This started to attract advertisers' attention, as they did not want to continue working only for the big local portals or newspapers, but were also interested in showing their ads in more vertical or niche sites, and in making them part of their diversification strategy in the famous "long tail". The networks of sites appeared to offer the advertiser the possibility of being present in more vertical sites and even in microniches. The benefit for the advertiser is not only to have access to all these sites but also, from an operational perspective, to have all the sites where they wish to publish their ads in a single platform, without being forced to implement a different technology for each of them and with the possibility of receiving only one invoice integrating all.
