Mentone Girls' Secondary College

At MGSC, our music program aims to create opportunities for all students from beginners to advanced. The students learn more about the music they love and to engage with it on different levels through a variety of activities. In the classroom music program we aim to give the girls the opportunity to gain the necessary skills they need to improve their ability to read the music they play on their instruments, listen to all music intelligently and to talk about various styles of music using the appropriate terminology. The extensive instrumental music program aims to develop the girls' skills on their specialist instrument and offer them opportunities to enrol for AMEB examinations if they wish. Students listen to and think about the various interpretations in performance of the works they are studying and spend time on developing and improving their aural skills. Through the concert band, choral and string programs students have a wide range of performance opportunities throughout the year. Furthermore we have a keyboard and computer lab and a state of the art recording facility where the students can explore the latest in music technology.
