Merchant Gourmet

Merchant Gourmet is a division of Leathams Plc, which was founded as Leathams Larder in 1980 by brothers Mark and Oliver Leatham. Initially Leathams Larder supplied game to the restaurant trade. Still run as an independent business, today Leathams employs over 150 staff and specializes in the provision of fine foods to Foodservice and Retail supermarkets. From its origins in game, Leathams expanded into Charcuterie, delicatessen and a wide variety of specialist foods. Through its subsidiary, Fayre Game, the group is also the largest supplier of quail and quail eggs in the U.K.Leading chefs and restauranteurs such as Albert Roux and Nico Ladenis have come to recognise Leathams consistent high quality and innovative, authentic ingredients. After 15 years of discovering some of the finest food producers throughout Europe, whose products have been supplied to many of the better known chefs and more prestigious restaurants and hotels, we took our products to British supermarkets. It was the chance discovery of Camargue Red Rice which led to the creation of Merchant Gourmet. Launched in early 1995, the initial Merchant Gourmet range included Camargue Red Rice, cooked and peeled vacuum-packed whole chestnuts from the la Correze region of France, and a superlative award-winning Pesto alla Genovese from Liguria in Italy. Today, the Merchant Gourmet brand encompasses a range of over 60 high quality foods. Our products are sourced from specialist producers around the world, where modern production techniques are combined with a respect for quality and traditional skill that have been handed down through the generations.
