Mercy Hill Church
Mercy Hill Church exists to make disciples and multiply churches. The story of Mercy Hill Church began about 6 years ago at the Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham, NC. The Summit Church, led by Pastor J.D. Greear, has a vision to plant 1,000 churches across the world over the next 40 years. Mercy Hill was birthed out of that vision. Pastor Andrew Hopper came on staff at the Summit church back in 2007 where he was immersed in the sending culture of the Summit Church. What started as several small conversations about church planting between Andrew and other Summit staff members grew into a compelling vision to plant a new church in Greensboro, NC. Encouraged to take Summit&s;s best with him, that vision turned into one family which turned into two and eventually turned into a team of 30 people from Raleigh-Durham. This team was committed to selling houses, leaving established jobs, saying good-bye to friends, and planting their lives in a new city. The team of 40, which included Pastor Andrew and the leadership team of Bobby Herrington and Jeremy Dager, met every Sunday night in Raleigh. The team was trained, discipled, and equipped. And in May of 2012, this army of eager church planters moved from Raleigh to Greensboro to see the Gospel go forth in their new city. Over the course of the summer, the team continued to meet to study God&s;s Word and build community (in Pastor Andrew&s;s back yard nonetheless). With eager anticipation, four months later on September 9, 2012, Mercy Hill launched their first public gathering. Since that time God&s;s blessing has been apparent. Originally the launch team&s;s prayer was that God would do "immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine" (Ephesians 3:20). And while we have seen great things, Pastor Andrew is convinced that the best is yet to come.
