Merlin Housing Society
Merlin staff have been racing, dancing and baking to raise more than £2,000 for its chosen charity over the past ten months. Now it's asking for suggestions for a local charity to support next year. Since August last year Merlin staff have been raising money for Brandon Trust by holding bake-offs, taking part in sponsored dance competitions, and running half marathons. Just last weekend ten staff pounded the streets in the Bristol 10k to raise another £300 for the Bristol-based charity. Brandon Trust provides services for people with learning difficulties and was chosen as Merlin's charity of the year by customers at the housing association's 2014 fun day. And visitors to this year's event, which is taking place at Yate International Academy on August 22, will be again be asked to choose a charity for Merlin staff to support. Communications Manager Faye Galvin said: "We're really proud of the efforts of staff over the past year who have ran, baked and danced their hearts out. We're delighted to have raised money to support the work of the Brandon Trust which offers support to many of our customers. "Now we're looking ahead to next year and have been asking staff and customers to nominate charities that are close to their heart. We've had a number of nominations already including St Peter's Hospice, The Carers Support Centre and Brace. We'll be making them all available for people to vote for at this year's fun day." As well as raising money for the Brandon Trust over the pastt year, Merlin staff have also raised money for Children in Need, Comic Relief and Mind.
