Metro Bilbao

Metro Bilbao is therefore implementing an energy efficiency policy where braking power is recovered as electricity. The electricity generated by the trains breaking and which was previously lost as heat is now return to the grid and discounted from the total Metro Bilbao energy bill. The implementing of this action has led to the use of all the energy recovered, as we need to use less energy generated at source by the power company. The energy obtained is cleaner, cheaper and 100% green energy. We also avoid the emission of 2,200 tons of CO2 from the generation of that energy, which is now saved. Up to 8% of the energy used is therefore recovered and returned to the grid to be used again. Our main aim is to involve the different public transport stakeholders (customers, society, suppliers and investors) as flagships of sustainable development.
