MHA Private

MHA was one of the first private companies registered in Maldives, after the early decades of the 19th century, when the Maldivian government changed their policies to allow privately owned businesses. Hussain Abdulla was, at the time, a small business man among the handful of traders in the Male' business area. He was among the only 5 businesses granted export and import licenses. MHA was granted permission to import and trade all types of goods except rice, sugar and flour, and to export types of fish which were rarely sold abroad at the time. The abbreviation "M.H.A" was formed from "Maroshi Hussain Abdulla", to be used as a shipping mark during the import and export of goods. We began our trading operations on the 1st of February 1972 at Chandhanee Magu No. 1/32 in "Elpaa". During the late 19th century, the goods requirements in Maldives were few and our portfolio mostly consisted of Curry Powder, Arecnuts and Tobacco. Eventually our product portfolio expanded to include goods like school stationeries and items that were used in the fishing and tourism industry.
