MIC's first MRI scanner was opened in 1999 at our College Plaza Facility located by the University of Alberta Hospital as a central access point for people needing MRI scans. We have since added 3 more MRI scanners to improve accessibility and booking flexibility. We now have two scanners at College Plaza and another two that came online in 2007 at our Southside Century Park location. This demonstrates MIC's dedication to the patient and referring physicians in providing immediate access to MRI scans. The new ESPREE MRI scanner at Century Park is specially designed to accommodate larger and/or claustrophobic patients. It also offers a degree of comfort not seen before in a MRI machine. This scanner has a much larger entrance and shorter tunnel for increased room and comfort for all patients. At present, MIC is the only imaging facility in Northern Alberta to have this scanner. This expansion to four scanners and the attention to patients comfort and security is another way that MIC is providing imaging excellence. Our MRI facilities are staffed with a full-time on-site MRI radiologist, dedicated to providing immediate interpretation of MRI exams. MIC radiologists provide diagnostic imaging services to four hospitals in the Edmonton area and have been providing MRI services to the hospitals since 1984. Our radiologists were integral to the establishment of the clinical MRI service in Edmonton (at the University, Royal Alexandra and Grey Nuns Hospitals), have been actively involved in MRI research and have participated in MRI training of radiologists and technologists in this rapidly advancing field. All MIC radiologists, technologists and equipment are certified and accredited. Our technologists have over 20 years of experience in MRI scanning. MIC provides MRI patients complimentary underground parking at College Plaza and ample parking within the main central lot at the Century Park facility.
