In one special case, a dear friend of ours asked us to help her live out her life's dream- to journey to see her name on the "Wall of Tolerance" in Montgomery, Alabama. The event was sponsored by the Southern Poverty Law Center, who extended a special behind-the-scenes tour especially in honor of Ms. Sams' life of advocacy and service. Our friend and colleague, J. Diann Sams, died shortly after this historic trip during the same week that Rosa Parks passed away. Although this was a very sad time, all of us on this trip were buoyed through our witnessing someone fulfill their dream.
