Mackintosh Lautenbach Architects
Mackintosh Lautenbach Architects (MLA) was established in 1998 when Kirby Mackintosh and Rod Lautenbach took over Evan Mackintosh & Associates (EMA), the practice of Kirby's father, Evan Mackintosh. Evan Mackintosh & Associates was established in 1959 in Walvis Bay, with a branch office opening in Swakopmund in 1969 and closing in 1986 when the firm scaled back its activities and this office was sold. Kirby joined EMA in 1995 with Rod joining in 1996. Architectural work forms the basis of the practice but furniture design, landscaping and urban design through association are fields where we are also demonstrating our skills. Mackintosh Lautenbach Architects offer a comprehensive architectural service for the realization of prospective construction projects. This service covers the feasibility and design of the project and the administration of the construction process. Our emphasis is on the resolution of the client's needs through the integration of a principled design process with the economical realisation of the built project. Values such as the logical functionality of spatial arrangements in the built environment coupled with the integration of appropriate materials for the specific brief, incorporating budgetary and aesthetic responsibilities, are paramount to the success of the specific project. The scope of projects undertaken by Mackintosh Lautenbach Architects range from single dwellings, corporate upgrades, markets, industrial and commercial developments and large scale development master planning. This diversity allows us the lateral experience to resolve a wide range of project specific challenges that cover a broad scale of intervention in different locations with specific client structures and needs. Mackintosh Lautenbach Architects staff and office structure further builds on the notion of the integrated resolution of challenges. Our preference for highly skilled professional staff operating in a studio environment allows for the natural exchange of creative ideas and gives our clients the benefit of this exchange in the design and implementation of their projects.
