The Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) was formed in 1981 with the union of the First Nations of Northwest Saskatchewan. Included in the Tribal Council are the Nations of Birch Narrows Dene, Buffalo River Dene, Canoe Lake Cree, Clearwater River Dene, English River, Flying Dust, Makwa Sahgaiehcan, Ministikwan Lake Cree, and Waterhen Lake. There are almost 7000 members living on the reservation withing the nine First Nations and 5,642 living off-reserve.
