MonaGIS

On January 28, 2016 the Mona GeoInformatics Institute (MGI) in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) handed over a map of the Hope Botanical Gardens to the Nature Preservation Foundation which manages Hope Royal Botanic Gardens on behalf of the government and people of Jamaica. The mapping project was proposed by Mr. Tadaoki Kihara (former senior JICA volunteer) and MGI was approached to offer its mapping and map creation expertise to bring this initiative to fruition. MGI has developed a strong relationship with JICA over the past couple years as a result of working closely with MGI's international intern, Dr. Kioshi Mishiro who is a JICA volunteer. The map will be used to enhance visitor experience, as it will be used as a site directory and on Nature Preservation Foundation website.
