Montanstahl

Montanstahl has been producing special sections in steel for the last 25 years. All types of steel from low carbon, through SBQ to stainless and tool steel grades are processed. The choice of the production method for a profile depends on its complexity, the surface finish, tolerance and the requested rolling lot. Compared to conventional rolling mills, Montanstahl offers the customers cost saving opportunities thanks to a high flexibility in the design of profiles by combining different production methods. Our manufacturing technologies are evaluated in close co-operation with end users with the goal to offer near net shape, functional and cost effective solutions. Laser Fusion Laser fused sections are produced at Montanstahl by welding individual material strips to make one complete section. The material strips may be prefabricated solid, hollow or even flat laser-cut strips. Davex This innovative technology is based on a mechanical roll forming process. In a first step a locator groove is processed into the flanges. In the second step a special pattern is embossed in the edges of the web. After this the embossed web is set into the flanges' groove. Hybrid Profiles Hybrid profiles are made by combining dissimilar materials with the purpose to achieve a thermal, acoustic, magnetic or electrical decoupling. Montanstahl preferably uses a special glass fiber reinforced polyamide (GRP)as web material and solid metals like common mild steel and stainless steel for the flanges. Hot Rolling Hot rolled sections are produced at Montanstahl by forming round wire rod, which can have a max. diameter of 58 mm, by a continuous rolling process at a temperature of about 1100°C. Cold Rolling Cold rolled sections are produced at Montanstahl by forming round wire rod, which can have a max. diameter of 25 mm, by a continuous rolling process without heating up the material. Cold Drawing This technology is a precision forming process which reduces the cross sectional area of metal wire or pre-rolled sections into a secondary or final shape by pulling it through precision dies.
