MSMF was initially formed in 1990 by Thomas F. Mengel, CLU, ChFC, MSFS, and Charles Surdyke, CFP®, under the name C.T. Solutions, LTD. The primary purpose of the firm was the design, implementation, and servicing of executive compensation programs, employee benefit plans, company-sponsored retirement plans, and business insurance planning. In 1995, Mark G. Finke, MBA, CFP®, joined the firm as a partner, and with the addition of Thomas Murphy in 2005, the firm Mengel, Surdyke, Murphy & Finke (MSM&F) was formed. MSM&F also moved into the firm's current Kirkwood location in 2005, beginning our longstanding relationship and deep understanding of the local community and economy. In 1996, the partners transferred their broker-dealer affiliation to Terra Securities Corporation and established Terra's first Office of Supervisory Jurisdictions (OSJ) in St. Louis. In this capacity, the Missouri Regional Office recruited and supported over one hundred fifty accounting professionals in offering financial services to their accounting and tax clients. In 1998, Terra was acquired by GE Financial Assurance, a subsidiary of General Electric. Subsequently, in 2004 GE Financial Assurance and GE Mortgage Insurance were combined to form Genworth Financial, a public holding company. Under Genworth Financial, the Missouri Regional OSJ invested over $1 billion in client assets. On April 1st 2012, Genworth Financial was sold to Cetera Financial Group and MSM&F became a proud Cetera affiliate. It is also during this time of positive growth and change that MSM&F opened their Poplar Bluff Office, began to rebrand themselves as MSMF and evolved their employee benefits department into its own entity, Sonus Benefits by MSMF. MSMF is now solely dedicated to serving our client's wealth management needs. We are eager to begin a new partnership with you as we build on our history to reach a better future for you.
