National Junior Tennis & Learning of Trenton
NJTLT also offers three academic scholarships to provide incentive for youths to continue their education. Applicants typically receive multi-year funding for college expenses and then work for NJTLT in the summer. The scholarships are funded by NJTLT, by the Geisel Family Foundation and the Charles Evans Foundation; the last was established in 2010 with an initial gift of $100,000. In addition, several Brown University alumni who are Trenton residents finance the cost for a NJTLT participant to attend a two-week camp at Brown in Providence, RI, to develop leadership skills. While NJTLT's objective has never been to identify and produce ranked tennis players but to enhance lives, its Ashe Elite Team is designed for those who exhibit extraordinary tennis talent. Participants practice year round and compete in leagues and tournaments. NJTLT's top players have done well, winning individual tournaments and district team events. Perhaps more important, NJTLT players frequently are cited for outstanding sportsmanship and many have been accepted to participate in USTA leadership camps.
