Media Arts Collaborative Charter School

MACCS was created by a group of visionaries who share a passion for the media arts. Once the mutual passion was established, they combined their talents to organize a school focused on teaching media arts characterized by ethics and responsibility to Albuquerque youth. The MACCS founders are April Adams, Janet Bridgers, Allen Cooper, Zack Freeman, Marvin Gladstone, Patti Gladstone, Colleen Gorman, Steve Ranieri, and Mike Trujillo. The Media Arts Collaborative Charter School (MACCS) is the first, state-chartered public school by the State of New Mexico Public Education Department. MACCS opened in September 2008 with 9th and 10th grades and is now at full capacity with grades 6 - 12. As a public charter school, MACCS' focus is rigorous high school academics wrapped with electives exclusively in the Media Arts. MACCS offers Film & TV Production, Film History, Documentary Film, Audio, Journalism, Business of Media, Animation, Screenwriting, 3-D Modeling,Game Development, Web Design, Photography, Media Literacy, Art, Graphic Design, and Web Design, as well as all content courses that meet high school graduation requirements and entrance into colleges and universities. MACCS is also proud to offer Advanced Placement courses and Dual Credit enrollment with CNM & NMSU. Internship opportunities for upper class-men within the Media Industry offer additional elective credits. MACCS is a co-partner of cable TV channel 26, Encantada! TV, which focuses on art, culture and education. MACCS students are responsible for 4 hours per week of production and airtime. All of these unique learning opportunities are what afford MACCS a high profile, sought-after school for public attendance.
