Nordic Centre

The Nordic Centre in India (NCI) is a consortium of leading universities and research institutions in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It was established in 2001 with the objective to facilitate cooperation in research and higher education between the Nordic countries and India. The Secretariat of NCI circulates between the member universities. Since 2018 the Secretariat is located at the Aarhus University. Established in 1928, Aarhus University has since developed into a major Danish university with a strong international reputation across the entire research spectrum. Aarhus University places a high value on close collaboration with business and industry, and takes pride in its deep involvement in the development of the society of which it is part. NCI is located more specifically within the Department of Global Studies . The department is known for its distinct approach to understanding our contemporary world by combining language-based area studies of Brazil, China, Japan, India, and Russia with European and International Studies and a global perspective by combining history, cultural studies and anthropology alongside political science, sociology and economics. To encourage academic exchange between the Nordic countries and India, NCI organizes a wide range of research and study activities, such as meetings, lectures, workshops and seminars on various themes related to studies and research on India and South Asia. NCI also helps students and researchers of the Nordic member universities with visa applications, research affiliations and visits at Indian universities and research institutes, and provides assistance when establishing research cooperation between Nordic and Indian universities. NCI also collaborates with Indian universities and research institutes in organizing tailor-made study programs for students from the Nordic member universities. NCI has been offering courses for more than a decade in cooperation with partners like the University of Hyderabad and the Institute for Social and Economic Change. NCI continues to develop short term and semester programmes in cooperation with some of the best institutions of higher education across India. Furthermore, scholars and representatives of NCI member universities have the opportunity to stay and utilise the Director's residence in Delhi for free.
