North State Security

North State Security was founded in 1968 by Archie Boek and his wife, Mattie Boek. Archie Served in the United States Navy as a young man and was awarded the Purple Heart after surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Archie and Mattie started a successful janitorial business in Redding, but soon recognized the need for private security in the greater Redding area. Having tremendous passion for customer service, a strong sense of integrity, and an unrivaled energy to succeed, North State Security was off to a strong start. With Mattie serving as dispatcher and Archie working as the sole patrolman, salesman, and mechanic, all while they raised four children, a success story began. By 1974, North State Security employed around 18 Security Officers. Archie refused to label his employees as "Guards. Having earned a solid reputation with then Redding Police Chief Robert Whitmire and long-time Shasta County Sheriff John Balma, North State Security continued to thrive. That same year, Archie's son, Lance Boek, began his career with North State Security. Nine years later, in 1983, Archie Retired and Lance became the new proprietor of North State Security. Steady growth followed and North State Security started serving clients in many northern California communities beyond the greater Redding area. As North State Security grew, so did the command staff. North State Security "Hall of Fame" Command Officers deserving honorary mention include retired Redding Police Officer Chet James (1983-1998) and retired Shasta County Sheriff's Sergeant Harold McDaniel Jr (1994-2007). North State Security Command Officers now include Mark McKain, Assistant Chief of Security (1987-present); Craig Freelove, Commander of Security (1993-present); Curtis Boek, Operations Captain (2011-present); Cody Fowler, Patrol Captain (2011-present); and Colby Darrah, Director of Client Services (2015-present). Nearly a half century later, North State Security has grown to more than 100 employees and is presently the largest private security company north of Sacramento. From its inception, North State Security's motto has been "Professionalism and Honesty. Keeping those ideals at its core, North State Security has grown from a single night time patrolman in 1968 to today, providing 24 hour a day service, 7 days a week.
