Norwalk
"We're a local community business that was founded in Norwalk by two Norwalk residents," he said. "The Norwalk River is an ideal river for rowing and also it's our home. It's centrally located and easy to get to. Plus the Norwalk River also has water safety consortiums - rowing safety on the river for all three clubs. We focus on that as well." Vengerovskiy said the DOT will help Maritime Rowing with the moving costs. While he is hopeful that the city will expedite review of the plans to provide a seamless relocation, he added that Maritime Rowing will be able to operate from the new location next spring even if the buildings aren't up. He said the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is reviewing plans for the club's docks at the new location. Maritime Rowing Club was founded in 1996 by Vengerovskiy's parents - his father Yan Vengerovskiy is head coach - and has operated since that time at 11 Goldstein Place. The club offers rowing classes for all ages and skill levels from middle school to Learn-to-Row to Masters competitive racing. In August, the club announced that it had hired Dan Walsh, a Norwalk native and Olympic Bronze rowing medalist, as the club's director of high performance and development.
