Through Oakwood's BuildStrong Education (formerly named Foundation for Educational Excellence), they have committed to education reform and early childhood education. Pat Hamill has served as co-chair of the Early Childhood Leadership Commission for the State of Colorado, as well as Chairman of Colorado Concern, an organization that focuses on business issues and education reform for the state of Colorado. In 2015, Hamill was named Corporate Citizen of the Year by the Denver Business Journal. In April, 2017, he was awarded The Cal Frazier, Investing in Education Award by the Public Education Business Coalition (PEBC) for his leadership on innovative educational solutions for PEBC.
